I’m 90 MILES in and Here’s What I’m THANKFUL for!

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on not only the holiday but also my journey through running. This year, my reflections are particularly meaningful as I take on a 5K-a-day challenge that began on October 30 and will continue until 2025. With the excitement of Thanksgiving Eve just around the corner, I have a lot to share about this journey, the lessons learned, and the gratitude I feel.

The Power of Running Under the Stars

There’s something magical about running at night. With only the stars for company, I find a unique clarity that comes with each step. On Day 23 of my challenge, I ran 5 miles under a canopy of stars, and it allowed me to pause and appreciate the beauty of the moment. The quiet of the night and the rhythmic sound of my feet hitting the ground create a meditative experience that often leads me to deeper thoughts about life and gratitude.

Running has this wonderful ability to distance me from the chaos of everyday life. It becomes a moment just for me—an opportunity to connect with my thoughts and feelings while taking in the beauty of my surroundings.

The 5K-a-Day Challenge

I embarked on this 5K-a-day challenge with a goal in mind: to reach a total of 90 miles during this period leading up to Thanksgiving. Balancing work, family, and personal commitments makes hitting the pavement daily a significant challenge, but it has been incredibly rewarding.

Running has always been a source of joy for me, and committing to this challenge serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance. Completing a 5K each day—no matter the obstacles—keeps me motivated, not just physically but mentally as well.

Achievements and Milestones

Completing 5 miles last night gave me a sense of accomplishment that is hard to put into words. Escaping the routine and embracing the challenge rekindles my passion for running. After last night’s run, I’m determined to push a little further and do another 5 miles today. As I lace up my shoes, I remind myself that every step counts toward achieving my goal.

Reaching 90 miles is more than just a number; it symbolizes dedication and a promise I made to myself to stay active and healthy. Each mile is a testament to my ability to overcome adversity and challenges that life throws my way.

The Importance of Gratitude

With the spirit of Thanksgiving looming, it becomes increasingly evident that this challenge is not just about the physical aspect of running. It teaches me to be grateful for my body—its strength and resilience. It reminds me to appreciate the moments of peace found in the rhythm of my breath and the grace of movement.

I think about all the things I have to be thankful for this year. From supportive friends and family to the simple joys of life, I recognize how fortunate I am. With each run, I remind myself to express this gratitude not just during Thanksgiving, but every day.

Looking Ahead: Future Celebrations

As I run, I can’t help but think ahead to future celebrations—Thanksgivings, Christmases, and other milestones. If I’m lucky, I have another 50 or more of these to look forward to. Each one will come with its own set of memories and experiences, and I want to embrace them fully.

Planning these future gatherings also serves as a motivational tool during my runs. Visualizing joyful moments spent with loved ones makes each step feel more worthwhile. In these moments, I am inspired by the anticipation of more shared laughter, love, and good food.

Conclusion: Gratitude in Motion

As I lace up my shoes for Day 24 of my 5K-a-day challenge on Black Friday, I do so with a heart full of gratitude. The journey may be filled with its challenges, but it also provides ample opportunities for reflection and appreciation. The beauty of running, especially during this season of thankfulness, reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.

This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to find time to reflect on what you are grateful for, just as I do while running under the stars. May we all cherish these moments and look forward to the joys yet to come. Happy Thanksgiving, and see you on the road!
